Mappele won the Gold medal in the 2002 IFMA championships in Thailand
 with a hard fought win over ISKA World Champion, Laura Skinner.

 Mappella started fighting at  seven years of age  with Karate. 

Mappella's most admired fighter is her coach, 
Petri Martinez, who  has been the driving inspiration in her fight career.
 She states that  he is the one reason why she is still training
after a series of discouraging injuries.
