6.     Do you participate in any other sports, or hobbies?

7.     Do you have time to make friends outside of the gym,
or does trainer and fighting take up all your time?

Normally, I socialize with friends on Sundays.  One month prior to fight, I have no time for socialization.  Basically very little time to make friends outside of the gym.

8.     What is your favorite kickboxing technique?

Low kicks and High kicks !?

9.     When was your first fight, and how old were you?

When I was 17 years old,

10.  Whom did you fight, and what do you remember most about that fight?

Against Rie Matsumoto.  The 3 minutes 3 rounds were very very hard!

11.  If you had that fight to do over, what would you do differently?

I would beat her by mixing high and low attacks.

12.  How does your family feel about you fighting?

They are really supporting me.

13.  Do they ever attend your fights?

My mother and aunt have been coming to my fights and cheering me on ever since my debut fight.

14.  Are you nervous before a fight? And if so, what do you do to try  and  stay calm?

Of course I become nervous.  I try to empty my mind.

15.  How does it feel to fight in front of a huge crowd of people?

It feels so good to have the audience watch me in the ring.  I feel happy.

            16.  You fight most of your fights away from home, in other
countries. How does it feel to always be fighting where  your opponent

usually has the support of the crowd, and the judges and  referee may possibly favor the          hometown  fighter?

I don't feel anything against it.  Hometown decision is every where.  The best thing is to knock out my opponent so that no one can do anything about the decision.

17.  When you are fighting in a foreign country, are you a little bit concerned about the possibility of a home town decision, and do you try harder for a knockout to avoid the possibility of a hometown decision?

I used to worry about that before, but no more.  Of course I go to my opponent's home town to knock her out.

18.  What country did you enjoy fighting in the most, and why?

In the USA, Las Vegas and Oklahoma, perhaps.  Because Elvis Presley played a lot in Las Vegas, and I have lots of friends in Oklahoma.

19.  Would like to fight more at home in Japan?

Yes, if it's possible.

20.  You have a reputation among other fighters for being one of the friendliest and most polite of all professional fighters. But, once you are in the ring, you have a reputation for being extremely fierce and ferocious. How do you manage to turn those very different personalities on and off so quickly?

In the ring, my opponent is my enemy.  Outside of the ring, she is not an enemy any more.  And I respect other fighters so very much... that's why.

21.  It seems like you go full force from the beginning of the fight to the end, and you never seem to pace yourself, or try to conserve energy. Do you find it difficult to pace yourself and conserve energy for the last round?

Before arguing about my fighting style, what's important is what kind of a fight the crowd wants to see.  For me, if I keep fighting aggressively from 1st round to the 5th round, it would turn out to be a really good match.  I can no longer change my fighting style, so I will keep fighting the way I have always been.

22.  How do you feel about women fighting three minute rounds the same as the men?

I think it's a good idea.  Because there is no difference between men and women in terms of stamina.

23.  Several women have fought against male opponents in the past, including Asako Saioka, Kyoko “Kamikaze” Miyazake, Sunshine Fettkether, and Takako Shimoseki. What do you think about women fighting male opponents if they are having trouble finding qualified women?

I think it's useless.  Men should fight men, and women should fight women.

24.  You have fought Maiko Katsuyama, and also Kaori Koizumi. How do you feel emotionally about fighting someone who is a good friend or gym mate?

I would not rather fight if possible.  But once fight is fixed, it's a different story.

25.   Did you find it emotionally difficult to go for the knockout when you were fighting Maiko Katsuyma or Kaori Koizumi?

Of course I would always go for a knock out.

26.  Who is the toughest person you have ever fought, and what made her so tough?

Illonka Elmont, Laura Skinner, Noriko Tsunoda, and Jet Izumi.  I fought Illonka with the Muai Thai rules with elbows.  She had strong neck wrestling, and she was powerful.  Laura had good front kicks and it was a tough fight.  Tsunoda could take beating, and she would always go forward.  Jet had strong punches.

27.  Is there any female kickboxer that you especially admire or look up to? If so, who, and why?

Sharon Anyos and Kathy Long.  Sharon won world title belts both in boxing and kickboxing.  Kathy has a good physique that I aspire to have.

28.  I am going to list the names of some fighters.  Can you please give your general impressions of them in a few words?

30.  Tell us something about your fight with Ilonka Elmont when you won the WIKBA flyweight world title?

She was the toughest fighter among all the flyweights I fought.  Illonka controlled Round 1, but from Round 2 onward, I turned aggressive and landed good punches, so it was a great fight.  It was a match of Knee & Elbow versus Punch and Elbow.

31.  Ilonka Elmont spent several weeks in Thailand training for her WIKBA title fight with you in Las Vegas, and that training seemed to help her with her clinching and elbow strikes. And she actually landed two very strong elbows in the first round of your fight with her. But those elbow strikes did not seem to slow you down or even bother you at all.  Do you have a very high tolerance for pain?

It didn't really hurt me.  I take more pains during training so I can endure.

32.  Have you ever been knocked down, or really hurt or in trouble in a fight?

I have been knocked down before but no damage at all.

33.  Have you ever fought in Thailand and do you have any plans to train or fight in Thailand?

I have fought in Thailand two times.  No plans to train or fight in Thailand at the moment.

34.  You had an unusual fighting experience when you fought a tag team match in the Smack Girl MMA Tournament in Japan- which you and your partner won.
What was the experience of fighting a tag team match in Smack Girl like?

It was a good experience, but I do not want to do it again.

35.  How do the Smack Girl fighters (MMA) compare to the kickboxers you have fought?

Those are two different sports, so it is not comparable.

36.  You also had an unusual experience when you fought an exhibition fight with Naoko Kumagai at IKUSA in October of 2001? Can you tell us something about that?

[Answer]  When I first started kickboxing, Kyoko Kamikaze and Naoko Kumagai were two of the big names in women's kickboxing.  I respect Ms. Kumagai.  Hopefully, I can fight her for real, not as exhibition.

37.  Some people have compared you to Naoko Kumagai because of your aggressive fighting style, and because of your record and achievements. What do you think about that comparison?

I don't mind being compared to her.  She is one of the people I respected, so I am glad for the comparison.

38.  What do you consider to be your greatest achievement so far as a kickboxer?

I am still growing as a fighter, so my greatest achievement has yet to come.

39.  What was your greatest disappointment as a kickboxer?

Nothing really.

40.   You have now won eight World Titles as a kickboxer and you are only 26. Do you think you may win so many world titles that no one will ever break your record for world titles won?

Someday the record will be broken, but it won't be easy.

41.  How many more years do you plan to fight professionally?

Three or four more years.

42.  What would you like to do finish your fighting career?

Making an exciting, grand and magnificent event.

43.  Naoko Kumagai, who is one of the all time greats, was in a movie (Jackass) which was filmed in Japan. Would you also like to be in a movie if the opportunity were offered to you?

Yes, I would love to.

44.  Are there any other goals if any would you like to accomplish as a kickboxer that you have not already accomplished? If so, what?

Draw a full house just to see me.

45.  When is your next fight, and who will you be fighting?

Undecided, but I will fight anyone, anywhere.

46.  What do you think can, and should be done, to help promote women’s kickboxing and Muay Thai in Japan?

Bring up the level of women's kickboxing.

47.  Is there anything else, in closing that you would like to say, or that
you would like for the fans to know about you?

I will continue to train and fight hard, so please keep cheering me on!
